Born and raised in northern California, Alvin Mata began his musical journey at the age of 8 when he picked up a saxophone for the first time. Over 20 years later, he has performed at some of the bay area’s notable music venues such as the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, The New Parish in Oakland and The Catalyst in Santa Cruz.

While Alvin started out playing pop, r&b, and blues, he eventually found himself diving into the reggae scene in 2011 and has since shared the stage with renowned acts such as Rebelution, J Boog, Tenelle, Jordan T, and more. Recently, he joined island reggae legend Fiji at some Bay Area festivals such as Holo Holo Festival in 2023 and Pacific Feats Festival in 2024.

Outside of bands, Alvin has been seen as part of a duo (with either a pianist or guitarist) at lounges, hotels, and restaurants, performing instrumental covers of popular songs. Additionally, he has played as a solo musician at private events such as weddings, anniversaries, and more.

In the studio, Alvin has recorded saxophone solos and custom horn arrangements for a variety of artists in addition to releasing his first single in January 2021, which can be heard here! Currently, Alvin is in the studio working on releasing more songs- sax covers and collaborations with other artists- and gigging a few times a month as well.
